This WebQuest was created for intermediate students, specifically 5th graders. Here are some ideas for differentiation:
Teachers should be sure the students have been exposed to the Georgia Standards of Excellence below prior to completion of this WebQuest. The students will meet the following Georgia Standards of Excellence:
Science
S5P2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to investigate electricity.
a. Obtain and combine information from multiple sources to explain the difference between naturally occurring electricity (static) and human-harnessed electricity.
b. Design a complete, simple electric circuit, and explain all necessary components.
c. Plan and carry out investigations on common materials to determine if they are insulators or conductors of electricity.
Social Studies
SS5H1 Describe how life changed in America at the turn of the century.
b. Describe the impact on American life of the Wright brothers (flight), George Washington Carver (science), Alexander Graham Bell (communication), and Thomas Edison (electricity).
English Language Arts
ELAGSE5RI7: Draw on information from multiple print or digital sources, demonstrating the ability to locate an answer to a question quickly or to solve a problem efficiently.

- Product: Students that have difficulties with writing can have a shortened final report that only requires one to two sentences for each section instead of 3 or more. Templates provided can be modified to meet the needs of individual learners.
- Process: Students that have difficulties typing on word processors could use speech-to-text devices to send their responses to the teacher electronically. For reading, they could use text-to-speech software such as Snap and Read. Students with language difficulties should be allowed to copy and paste the text into Google Translate to aid with understanding.
